in the end

It can be seen on any front lawn

without the weekly firing of 2-stroke john deer engines

or the dandelions getting their glyphosate treatments

as they soon become overshadowed by Elms that grow above

red clay and mortar that make up building structures

are soon split apart

by thin vines that climb them

choked to bits

as they fall back to the soil below

roads of asphalt begin to break

as the rivers widen year after year

exposing the rebar edged cliffs

as they too

rust away to nothing

the monoliths of concrete that hold back streams

give way to the persistence

and resilience

of the rivers

allowing natures paintbrush to stroke

once again

replenishing

the Gila,

the Colorado

the Salmon
